What’s Brewing in NJ? | Jersey Bites »

The linked article discusses the current legislative limitations to brewing beer and dispensing it in New Jersey.  In fact, the the current legislative regime puts “NJ brewers at a disadvantage to brewers in the surrounding states of NY, PA and DE.”

The NJ Senate Law and Public Safety Committee will vote in just a few days on Bill S-641 which could change the reality, making New Jersey a friendlier craft beer state.  The bill “would give craft brewers in the state more flexibility in how, when and where they may sell, distribute and promote their product.”  The bill is supported by the Garden State Craft Brewers Guild, whose members are shown on the map below.

Call or email the Committee representatives to help make it easier to drink local craft beer in Jersey City.  I am including a suggested email text for you to copy and paste in to your email:

Dear Senators,

I am writing to encourage you to approve the bill S-641 promoting the local New Jersey craft beer brewing industry this early March.  It is important to modify the state’s brewery and brew pub laws, in the face of changing economic and social concerns, to (i) harness the statewide craft beer drinking market with New Jersey-made craft beers and (ii) compete locally and regionally with neighboring states’ craft breweries.

I have been impressed by the local New Jersey beers on tap at pubs and restaurants in my town.  It is very difficult to purchase these same beers for at home consumption.  It would be a welcome change to see local breweries featured in stores in New Jersey as well as on tap.

I ask you approve bill S-641 to encourage economic development of the New Jersey craft beer industry.

Sincerely,

The phone number and email of the Senators on the applicable committee are below:
